Description
Stunning coffee service from Hutschenreuther Selb Bavaria Germany. Each piece is marked with the Hutschenreuther stamp for pieces hand painted between 1939 and 1965. The coffee pot is marked 1953 in gold. The pattern is beautiful - a spray of pink roses against gray / green leaves. The hand painted gold gilt trim on all pieces is perfect. The interiors are free of stains and it appears this set was used very lightly, if used at all. This set could also be used as a tea service. The coffee pot stands 7 5/8" tall with the lid on. The covered sugar stands 4 5/8" tall with the lid on and the creamer stands 4" tall. The coffee / tea pot holds 4 cups (32 ounces). The creamer and covered sugar are mint with absolutely no faults. I noticed a tiny chip on the underside of the coffee pot. It is very hard to see from the exterior as it lies within the scalloped edging on the bottom of the pot. I have tried to capture it in close up pics (last two pictures). I only found it by running my finger over the edge and finding a tiny rough spot. It does not detract from the overall beauty of this set. The lids and their pulls are mint and sit perfectly into the pot and sugar bowl respectively.
What is rare about this set is it is signed in gold with the artist's initials. The coffee pot, creamer and covered sugar are all marked in gold with initials which appear to be "elc". The initials are all beside the pink rose spray hand painting. It is very rare to see Hutschenreuther pieces signed by the artist who completed the stunning hand painting.
