  • Condition: NOS vintage wood and brass dressmakers, tailors sewing square or ruler. Very good condition 22 1/2" long by 12 1/4" wide marked with Japanese Kanji "Front" and "Neck" plus the words "Pocketsukuri" in Katakana. Not sure what it means. I found a few unused in tissue. May have been ordered for a sewing school. A similar one will be sent. This square was probably made for the Japanese in Hawaii market as it is scaled in U.S. inches and not centimetres.

    Description

    New Old Stock Vintage wood and brass dressmakers, tailors sewing square or ruler. Very good condition 22 1/2" long by 12 1/4" wide marked with Japanese Kanji "Front" and "Neck" plus the words "Pocketsukuri" in Katakana. Not sure what it means. This square was probably made for the Japanese in Hawaii market as it is scaled in U.S. inches and not centimeters. I found a few new unused in tissue. May have been ordered for a sewing school. A similar one will be sent. There were sewing schools and teachers in pre Statehood Hawaii including one run by
    K. Kimata, a famous seamstress, dressmaker, and designer in Hawaii during the early 1900's. This square is similar to hers.
